When i went to Columbus last year, prices were pretty reasonable. I think shells were like 15ish. Gloves were 40-50, but really beat up. They sold helmets, but no visors IIRC. I think the helmets alone were in the same price range as the gloves.

Thanks for the fast reply. O man no visors. would the shells be compatiable to a reebok 6k pant?

Anyone know if Carolina ever has a sale? I've looked on the web site and found nothing. What about Atlanta? Might take the wife down for a weekend if I can score some gear on the cheap.

Devils Draft party/equipment sale

Went to the devils draft party/equipment sale this afternoon, although they had a good amount of gear, it was a total gong show. Dragged my wife with me & we Got there at 3:30 (doors were to open at 6:30) and there were MAYBE a 100 people, tops ahead of us. Over the next 3 hours, the line built up to just about a city block, so I was pretty happy where we stood in line. As we approached 6:30, the fun really began, as they started telling folks who were only their for the draft party to move around the other side of the building. This caused a huge amount of line cutting as there were no barriers or even those rope thingies set up to keep people from hopping into the "equipment sale" line. They also allowed people to exit from the side door of the "devils den" shop, directly into line. this caused us to go from 100th in line to like 400th as there was absolutley no 'crowd control' keeping the lines in order.

Once onto the floor of the arena (where they had the equipment) they allowed folks to go in in groups of ten. Sounds all good, but they never made folks leave, so the floor just got more and more crowded. Plus, they didn't limit what a person could buy, or just grab and literally sit on until friends further back in line got access to the floor. One woman in particular, who was in the first group, had 2 Garbage bags full on gloves, waiting for other members of her group to go threw them. She also had like 20-25 sticks, and as members of her group gained access to the floor, they just kept adding to the stockpile. All i was looking for was a shanny stick, or even any other righty, but by the time we got out there, they were all gone. I knew Shanny would be a popular item, but it was kinda sucky to see people walking around with six of his dolomites (I saw at least 20 of his sticks in other people's hands, so they were around).

long story short

The good- lots of equipment (for the first dozen of so hoarders), pleasant security folks, decent prices ($50/stick new or used, 'new' gloves $65, game used $100, bags $20, used skates $100)

The bad- No limits on how much you could grab, no helmets, visors, shins, pants, or shoulders

The ugly- Groups in front of line hoarding up everything, & Dirty, rotten line cutters ruining my day

/end rant

Did you see the kid with the long curly hair who had pretty much every righty S17 and an entire box of skates and gloves?

I ended up lucking into a pair of Pandolfo one95s that have 3-4 puck marks, otherwise are perfect.

An AMAZING pair of Andy Greene XXXXs that were obviously gutted and the most broken in gloves ever.

Who's "matty?" I got his easton pros with the synergy logo.

that sucks, I think my wife would have shown her ass and gotten us kicked out if that would happen to us. really dumb they didn't have any kind of control over that.

Jofa 7000 is a great pant. Euro style fit. Still manufactured and used today as a Reebok pro stock pant.

There were seriously 10-20 pairs of Colin White warrior gloves. The Clarkson ones were real nice but a lil kid snatched them up on me. My friend actually bought a couple new S17s off one of the hoarders later on. There was also a kid walking around with at least six pairs of warrior gloves.

I lucked into the one95s. I guess someone else tried them on and they didn't fit, so they left them by the row of chairs, not the skate pile.

I would simply ask one of those people hoarding Shanny sticks to give you one, I mean really, taking 20 Shanny sticks seems a bit greedy too me. Even if you are in it to make money/business, I would hope the person would have the decency to throw a bone to you if you asked for just "one". Boo Hoo, now I only have 19 Dolomites to sell/play with.

I do find that many of those guys are willing to give up one if you ask nicely.

I actually offered $60 to 2 seperate people for "the rights" to one of their shanny sticks and they still wouldn't let me have one :(

* just to clarify, no one single person had 20 of his sticks, the most I saw one person have was 7. and another with 6....and a couple with 5. So there were a few of his sticks around, but they got hoarded up, that's what got me so riled. Shoulda beena limit on the popular players stuff.

Left a bitter taste in my mouth, to say the least.

I actually was about to buy those easton gloves in the post above, but was so po'd i didn't wanna give the devils any of may cash....glad someone who appreciates good equipment got a hold of them at least :)

the devils sales were much better when they had them in the bubble...i remember a couple years ago they gave tickets to season ticket holders, i got one because i recieved the devils alumni scholarship when i graduated hs. they also had more stuff back then, you could basically outfit an entire player based on the sale. its a shame to see people just putting stuff that looks like its in good shape in a box without even trying it on to turn it on ebay when they get home, but thats what happens these days. i would love it if they had limits, than people might actually look for what works for them and not the highest bidder

side note....does anybody no why they weren't offereing protective other than gloves?...i know the protective they used to offer was generaly new and stripped down...got a new pair of stripped down jofa shins a couple years ago, best pads i ever had

this isnt an official equip sale, but hockeytown authentics in troy today had a huge sale on old red wings stuff. categorized by season for a couple seasons, game and practice used jerseys, skates (more than usual), gloves (more than usual), pants ton of sticks very few helmets and some visors... dont know if thats going to be it for the wings or not

That's it for the Wings. Compared to previous sales, they really didn't have that much. Personally, I thought the prices were a bit high...especially for the jerseys ($250 for a practice jersey, $40 for used, scratched visors, etc.).

$60 just for the rights ? So to buy the stick you have to fork out another $50 at the check out/cashier ?

Karma is a going to be bitch when time comes around. The Hockey Gods won't look kindly on this.

Thank god i didnt trek to the Devils draft day party/equip sale. I would have been seriously ticked off if I say kids hording everything. Its a real shame that there arent people there to control that sort of behavior.

Edit: On a somewhat related note are team bags sold at these sales? I need a new bag and would like to get one or event a older vintage one (i.e. the canvas type).

From what I understand, generally not. Many players keep theirs, and many are recycled. One retired player I know has the bags from every team he played for. I couldn't even pry one out of the bolts with the old logo on it, they said they use them for training camp and preseason guys.

Damn dude, all you had to do was ask.

I have bags in bags.

Old logo though.

But really - it is like a badge of courage for pros. But if you wanna be that guy rolling up to drop-in with a pro team's bag and don't even look like a pro, by all means...LOL
