Flite vs MIA

Recommended Posts

Flite is cheap Chinese garbage. I made a big mistake stocking it in my store, still have all but one glove, no one wants them, even though marked down to nearly nothing. Don't know anything about MIA.

MIA stands for Made In America. The company is based in Montreal, and is operated by 3 guys of the same family, who by the way used to run Eagle for the glove category, also based in Montreal.

They all left Eagle to start their own company. Note those 3 guys were in charge of designing, producing, and marketing the gloves at Eagle. So basically, the MIA are just like Eagle, but with split fingers, and some very miror other differences. Also comes with 3 different palm types, all real leather I think (goat, kangooroo, and cow). No need to tell you Eagle is pissed off...

They fit just as wide as Eagle, and come in 2 sizes (SR and intermediate). They also have regular soft foam for the padding (no EPP), and don't have a lock thumb.

Available in crazy color. Can also get them with custom color and name. The only thing is they won't be shipped to every single hockey shop, like Eagle did. They'll only be available in about 75 shops across North America. You can probably order them via internet, but their site isn't that great at the moment.

Hope that helps...

I don´t know. I received a pm from a fellow board member who supposely is one of the MIA guys and he told me Flite gloves were made by MIA. We had a similar topic like a week or two ago and he thought I had said that Flite makes MIA. It´s the other way round, though.

I know Eagle used to make Flite pro gloves, just like they used to make CCM and TPS's I think. When I visited the Eagle manufacture in Montreal, Michel showed me a bunch of pro gloves Eagle was making for other brands...

I wouldn't be surprised if MIA stole that piece of business from Eagle, as Michel, his brother and dad were the heads of EAGLE gloves.

But for what concerns low end Eagle (or even Flite maybe in this case) they're made in Asia, and look pretty bad.

But anyway, isn't Flite owned by Marty McSorley or some pro?

I see. Maybe what this guy told me isn´t the truth anyway.

PS: It´s Chris McSorley.

So lets see if I can get this straight...MIA is a company that was formed by some former Eagle employees. Eagle used to make Flite's gloves but now MIA makes Flite's gloves. Is that how it works?

And they are just as pricey as Eagle gloves :)

I'm saying Eagle used to make pro NHL gloves for Flite. But I woulnd't be surprised that MIA started making the NHL Flite gloves, as the Paul family had all of the contacts for Eagle. But i'm not fully sure about that. Haven't talked to the Paul's about that yet...

Wrong Jimmy. Flite gloves are indeed made by MIA.

No I'm not wrong. Perhaps the new Flite gloves are made by MIA. I have the Chinese junk, last years models.

Rumour at our shop was they were made by Eagle (last years). I have a feeling there is a very loose tie somehow. Same materials maybe, same factory, something along these lines that are getting passed on.

Oh okay....didn´t know we were talking last years stuff. That´s possible of course. This year Flite´s and MIA´s are the same. At least the Flite 3300 model.

Old topic, has anyone purchased the Flite 3300 glove?

I am meeting the local rep to try them on, but I was wondering if anyone has long term reviews.

They look alright and for $89 CDN they seem like a good deal. The rep told me they are still MIA/Warrior made, Gerry McSorley the owner hasn't confirmed this.

Thanks,

Here's the straight info on Flite's 2009 3300 Pro glove:

It's made in China and not made by Warrior/MIA. When Warrior bought MIA, Flite had to find another factory to produce it's gloves. The glove is actually a good glove for that price (I have a pair). It's got a carbon overlayed synthetic leather exterior, pro plastic inserts, double density foams, and a nash palm. I thought the glove was a little stiffer 'out of the box' than most gloves made today. After wearing them once or twice they are good to go. When comparing the fit versus the Warrior/MIA (Franchise and MB22 - which I have as well), the Flite glove is similar through the hand and fingers, but has a longer cuff. The fingers gussets are also a little more streamlined than the Warrior/MIA.

I've been playing with it for a few months and it's holding up well. Quite honestly, I would rather have 2 pairs of the 3300 Pro than spend $200 on a single pair of the Warrior Franchise. Now if you can find a pair of MIA MB22's on clearance, I'd recommend getting them. Overall, the 3300 pro is a good glove. However, there is a lot of competition at that price point. Bauers 4 roll, CCM's 4 roll, Reeboks 4 roll, Warrior's Bully, etc. I'd check them all out to see what fits you best.

If anyone was interested in Flite's 3300.

Tried the gloves on, for $89CDN and compared to retail gloves in Canada at that price, not bad. Definitely not at the same level of Franchise or old MIA.

Fit was good, but I felt the nash palms were crap, and the gussets were way to baggy for my little fingers.

For a little extra cash, I think I will go with the Bully or CCM V08.

Flite's Pro bag for $45 was really good, I will be ordering 1.
