hurricaneoasis 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 Hey guys, I'm going to buy some new pants, I've got a pretty cheap pair right now and I'd like to get something that fits a lot better and is lighter, something that won't hinder movement at all. I was originally going to get some Tackla Air-9000's because I've heard great stuff about them...I've always used pants, but I'm curious if I wouldn't be better to get a girdle and a shell. I'm probably going to spend anywhere up to $100 on whatever I end up getting... I was just curious what some peoples opinions on getting pants or a girdle & shell... and any suggestions of what a good one is either way

Methane 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 I can't speak to the girdle question, but I am really happy with my CCM 892's LE. Got them from Perani's (LHS) for under $100 USD, the only thing LE about them over a regular 892 pant is the double belt it seems.http://hockeyworld.com/prodHome.ihtml?pid=...olorx%20-shopx1
tomh7 2 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 I have the RBK 8k and I really like them. When I got them I was trying on just about evert pant I could find. The 8k's were by far the mose flexible right off the rack. The shell material is identical to my Tackla 5000 so I wasn't too worried about durability. I've been wearing these for almost two years now and I still love them. They are still in excellent shape and I am on the ice about 8-10 hrs per week year round. Just my $0.02. Andoy 5 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 What level of hockey do you play? This is what will really influence your choice of pants. High end pants offer more padding, but might limit mobility. Low end pants barely have any protection at all so it'll feel like you're wearing nothing.
Monty22 835 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 ... I would try a girdle if you can borrow one form a buddy before buying if you can. I've always worn regular pants, bought a girdle and after 3 skates couldn't get used to it. There are others who swear by them. For the most part pants will offer more protection, especially the lower back/kidney area.By the way- I have use the Tackla 9000's and couldn't be happier with them. tibnyi01 10 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 I have always worn pants and recently went with the Rbk 6k's/ I usually buy the top of the line but with pants its not a huge thing. I love them. They have the adjustable straps for length and tightness. It's great. I get my shin guards and skates the way I like them and then can adjust the pants to however feels comfortable. IMO the best pants I've ever worn.
mbhockeyplaya88 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 I have NBH Vapor XXX Lite pants and they offer me a lot of mobility. My old Sher-Wood pants deffantly had more protection, but I am able to move a lot better in these. You can also tell the difference in the weight.
OkSt. 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2007 I used Tackla 5000's for a long time and then tried the bauer MPB 8 girdle and absolutely love it. The protection is good, weight is nothing and flexibility is awesome. Alot of this is just personal preference but I'd try one out if you can.

MLSman 22 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 My experiences:The best pants I have worn are the Tackla 5000 or the 9000 - lightweight and very protective.Places like EWH have good deals on pro stock pants - the Eastons and the Bauer 5000 pro stocks are great choices.I liked the protection of the RBK 8K....but they are a tad on the heavy side.NBH Vapor XXX - nice lightweight pant...but have heard and seen durability issues where the belt wraps around the pant.As far as girdles go, I think the Tackla 4000 is the best girdle on the market. I personally use the Easton Synergy. Real lightweight and offers enough protection for non-contact adult league. I have also heard some people say the Eastons are less durable than the Tacklas, but I have not had those issues. Mission also makes a few girdles for Roller hockey that cold be used like the 10000. windycity 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 My opinion is that a pro stock/return pant will have a more "custom" fit and the protection is awesome --- such as the Easton or Bauer's mentioned earlier. I have the pro Easton pants and they fit like they were made just for me and have great protection (which I need with a bad back). Having said that, you will find that the Bauer XXX lite pants are super lite and have pretty good protection (just not maybe quite as good as a pro pant). Also, I tried the Tackla and the RBK 8K and didn't care for either (personal preference). The tackla has less protection, but is lite and is used by lots of europeans. The RBK 8K felt altogether different than what I'm used to and didn't care for it. I think you should go ahead and try all of them on --- maybe even go so far as to buy the pants, take them home and walk around the house with them for awhile. Then take them back if you don't like them.
