rekker15 vs n12 vs apx vs...rbz80..thoughts?

Recommended Posts

ok,..i'm in the market for another stick for my son. like any 11 year old you have to prod and prod for info about things, other than " i like it, it's good" or "it sucks"

we got him an rbz80 c46 landeskog for xmas....after i saw the bugs vid, i wanted to help him improve, and it seemed like the stick for him..at first it seemed like a great choice, but now i'm not so sure.

his passing has gotten worse with this stick and it flutters...sure he's able to lift the puck some, and carry the puck better, unlike the warrior widow zetterberg youth stick he had previously..but he seems to have lost some mustard..the zett provided him with crisp passes and a harder shot that never left the ice....but sometimes he coudn't keep the puck on the stick and he was losing it and shooting wide.....the c46 helped him in that sense staying w/ the puck..so there are +/-

i have since picked him up a middle road warrior, hard to find kovalchuk pattern w/ a 4lie.(comparing to the c46 5.5 lie..it really doesn't seem that much difference).which i haven't removed from the wrapper yet.

here;s the thing...the rbz 80 is heavy as hell, and he wants to improve lift even more...since i can't find a crazy ovi or kremlin for him in a jr size (anybody have one for sale?)..i'm looking at the stasny for him...

the sherwood n12 is going to be lighter than any stick he has..and the 60 price seems like it will be the buy on value and what i think will help him.....but i don't want to discount rekker15 which is around 80grams lighter but close to 100 bucks more.......throw in the bauer 1 gen apx discounted to 110 and you have sticks i'm considering..

i really want him to get a lighter low kick stick which will help him w/ his wrist shots..and lifting always makes him smile, so an open face will aid him

n12 -$60

apx -$110

rekker15 -$150

thoughts?...and which pattern should i get if i do go the way of the apx ..as of now..... i'm leaning the n12

At that age it is important he learns to raise the puck with proper shooting mechanics, rather than relying on a curve to do it all for him. Will make it much easier, and give him better control down the road. Personally, I used a PM9 until I hit Major Bantam, and had no issues with putting pucks where I needed to. By that point I could realize for myself what I wanted my curve to do for me, and adjusted then.

I'd probably lean towards the discounted APX, and this \/

buy the n12, 20 pucks, and a sturdy wood plank for him to shoot 100 pucks a day against.

I have two ek15s. I love the stick, it offers me great specs and value for its price. Its the updated version of the n12, which ive also heard good things about. The answer to this question will have more to do with the financials and preferences of the individual than anything. The best part of the n12 is the price, so I would personally go for that. If he likes it, maybe move to the ek15 next.

I agree with the Jackal. The EK15 is an awesome stick (my kid currently uses it) but the N12 is still a pro level stick and very light. For the low price they sell now they are a steal. If your son practices his shot it will improve and he won't be held back by his stick.

the rbz 80 that he uses now is a club....prolly should have ponied up $40 more for the 100 version..

i also heavily tape the stick for him to prevent damage and help control, covering up the entire blade w/ cloth an then go over the sweet spot w/ friction, and then hit it w/ wax. .. i also put a seam line on the bottom of it as well before the first wrap......then....i also touch it up and seam the bottom once again when i see wear instead of a complete retape...i don;t know how much more weight it is,..but i'm sure it doesn't help.

..i beileve the rbz80 is 450grams?..and after my tape it might be 500?.......lol the rekker is what 300?.....wow.....the n12 is what,..380?..and apx 335?

sadly,..the rekker isn't discounted yet,...and the other two sticks are....unless somebody can tell me he'll be much happier w/ it than the other two i proilly won't get it...and cost doesn;t matter if it's noticable improvement

in the rekkers defense of not being discounted yet, it is only months from release =) out of curiosity what kind of wax do you use?

i bought some in a pinch from the rink pro shop. prices were absurd 2x more...it was howie's wax....and snow does still build up on it..won't buy it again..but he seems to get more grab, so it'snot entirely worthless
