So yea, putting the old one back on. It clears up a little bit once on the ice but if I don't wipe the inside every shift it gets worse and worse until it will no longer clear up.

I also already have a scratch on it, not that that's their fault.

I wonder why the first one was so good at fog resistance and this one is so awful.

Since you were using soap on your previous version I was wondering if you tried it on the Elite yet?

I've used it for about 10 games now and LOVE the vision, but the condensation is starting to kill me. It's almost like it's getting worse and worse each game.

Yea I tried soap, didn't help at all.

I was almost to a point where I was going to just grab my screwdriver out of my bag and remove it completely and play with nothing.

Very disappointed, especially after how long I waited.

Yeah, I heard such great things about the first version I was really excited to grab the newest iteration.

On their Product Care page it says to clean it between games with soap and water, or water, or 409 and a sponge. I might give the 409 a try as I'm wondering if a layer of sweat is staying behind even though I give it a wipe down after the game.

I also sent them a Facebook Message asking if they suggested any products or what to do with the condensation, but I doubt they'll provide me with much feedback. It says right on their Product Care page not to use any fog free crap.

The first one did not fog AT ALL.

I'm not even going to try finding something to make this thing not fog, I'm not willing to go another game not being able to see.

Well then, maybe I should ask them to just send me an older version to just replace the damn thing...

I originally got this because I thought the Convex lens would help with less distortion. I had an older Bauer Hybrid that had the straighter shield and thought there was some distortion with it.

What do you think of the original vs the Elite when it comes to distortion?

I found more distortion on the elite just because of the convex lens. You don't notice it while playing but you can see it in your peripheral vision while turning your head.

The original had absolutely no distortion. It was fantastic. I will be putting it back on for my next game.

So I played again last night with it as I'm determined to keep using it.

What I realized was that when I try to NOT make it fog up on the bench, as in, not breathing up into the mask and trying to breathe through my nose..... that's when it fogs. When I started breathing normally or even a few hard blows up right into the mask, it would clear up almost immediately.

I've played three more games with it and I haven't experienced the fogging you guys are taking about.... I think I've just gotten lucky? all I've done is wipe it down with water and it seems like it's gotten better for me. none if that shimmer. maybe the rink I play on its just a little bit warmer?

Optimus - Is the air flow better on the older version? and the one question I had was the vision below the shield - I seem to lose track of the puck below the shield due to the bars more than my cage. is the older better in this respect?

I just switched from a cage to the new Elite visor on my Bauer helmet. I wanted to try a shield again as I seem to lose the puck more these days in my line of sight with the cage on rebounds or passes that are not where they are supposed to be. I have only used the new visor for two power skating sessions but it has performed quite well. No fogging at all but I have noticed the thin condensation film. This has dissipated as I skate. I have not tried it in a game situation yet where you are stopping and starting more with line changes where there might be an opportunity for more condensation.

I should really be more specific. It's not so much actual fogging I'm dealing with, but just the fact that I can't see anything because of the condensation. Same difference for all intents and purposes in this case.

I'm tellin' ya... Modify it! The only solution I've found to get rid of the condensation has been to create an air pocket where you breathe. So far, I've been high-sticked twice, took a puck directly to the visor while sitting on the bench, and yet it's still held up fine! It's ugly, but it works!

Simple steps:

- Use 5/8" or 3/4" long screws and use the metal brackets that came with the mask and mount an Oakley visor (I use a VR903) to the inside of the mask (just use the top holes on both sides for now). ***Push the visor out as far as it can go without creating a lot of tension nor rubbing along the top-side of the frame, then tighten the top screws***

- Use the visor's lower holes as a template for creating the second hole and, with a sharpie, create a dot on the frame.

- Remove the visor, then use the dot as a place marker and drill a hole all the way through the frame with a 1/8" drill bit.

- Swap out the bit for a 7/32" bit and make the hole wider.

- Remount the mask using both top and bottom screws/brackets. Ideally, you'll want to have the shield at about the half-way mark... in-between the top plastic frame, then tighten it down!

***Note: Depending on the helmet size, the visor may sit closer to the face. Again, try pushing it as far out as it can go (without creating a ton of tension on the visor) before you tighten down the screws.
